1. Separated departments seclude people. The old organised silos and zones thwarts collaboration and ideas. Chances for serendipitous interaction - nil. Create open, interconnected stairs.
2. Sandwiched workspaces is usual given limited space along with cabinets and other fixtures leaving your staff feeling claustrophobic and overwhelmed. It is like sitting in the middle seat of an airplane -stuck. Give a sense of space via bumpers and breakers.
3. Fixed furniture is very limiting. Fixed desks and conference tables just no longer works. Empower your staff with adaptable furniture so they can change their environment.
4. Walls isolate. Worse they become a major pain when they block out natural light. Put up glass walls for everyone to benefit from the changing natural light colours.
5. Dull colours paints the mood of your office. Plain and grey will definitely translate to a grim and gloomy mood. Spread cheer and enthusiasm with lively bright colours as a starter.
